About the Role

Job Description:

Summary

  • This role is responsible for ensuring legal compliance, managing employee relations, and advising the company on employment law matters to support a productive and legally compliant workplace.


Responsibilities

Legal:

  • Ensure the organization complies with all applicable employment laws and relevant legal regulations.
  • Draft, review, and manage contracts, including employment agreements and vendor contracts.
  • Provide legal advice to management and employees on a range of issues, including employment disputes and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee or participate in litigation and other legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and organized legal documentation and records.
  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks to protect the organization.


Human Resources:

  • Develop recruitment strategies, conduct interviews, and manage the hiring process to attract top talent.
  • Address employee relations issues, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Plan and implement training and development programs to support employee growth.
  • Manage compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness and fairness.
  • Develop and oversee performance management systems to drive accountability and development.
  • Manage HR Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll administration efficiently.
  • Develop, communicate, and enforce company policies to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Collect and analyze HR data to support informed decision-making.


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.). A valid BL qualification and call to the Nigerian Bar is an added advantage (or required, depending on the role).
  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in both Human Resources and Corporate/Commercial Legal Practice.
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian Labour Law, employment regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, employment agreements, policies, NDAs, and other legal documents.
  • Hands-on experience managing recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, disciplinary procedures, and offboarding.
  • Ability to advise management on legal and HR compliance matters while mitigating organizational risk.
  • Experience handling employee grievances, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with statutory compliance requirements, including pension, NSITF, ITF, PAYE, and other relevant employment obligations.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using HRIS or HR management systems is an advantage.


Preferred Certifications

  • CIPM, SHRM, HRCI, or other HR certifications (added advantage).
  • Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), where applicable.
